Pride month is over, check in with yourself. How are you committing to being an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community into July, August, and the rest of the year? Into 2023, and beyond?

What does it even mean to be an ally? Did you attend a parade, did you purchase a shirt, did you attend a protest, or did you donate your time or money to an LGBTQIA+ organization? Does this make you an ally? The short answer, No. While these are things that allies can do, simply participating during Pride month doesn't in and of itself make someone an ally.

Well then, what is Allyship? It is something that is earned through consistent and conscious action, listening, and learning. It is also unlearning harmful behaviors and thoughts that have been passively learned through living in a cis-hetero-normative society. Allyship isn’t relegated to a day or a month that is celebrated each year, it is in the everyday, seemingly innocuous moments in which allyship is cultivated. It’s making honest mistakes, it’s fucking up, and taking constructive criticism and acknowledging that you fucked up, and learning from your mistakes. It’s asking questions when you’re unsure of the right answer, but also not burdening your queer friends and family members with every little thing—it’s not their job to hold your hand and guide you. It’s calling out micro-aggressions instead of letting them persist. It’s taking the responsibility to do the work yourself.

Doing right by a community or human for one month, or one day a year when it is top of mind does not make you an ally. Commit to continuing to learn, and continuing to support the LGBTQIA+ community every month, and every day.

Keep showing up. Keep learning. Keep listening. Keep doing the work—all of the time.

The first collaboration for our Drinking in Another State Project has launched from @czigmeister

On July 13th, we will be introducing our Pink Grapefruit Hibiscus Imperial Saison, a beer we’ve made to contribute to Drinking in Another State, a beer initiative that stands by the belief that all beer drinkers deserve the right to make choices about their beer - and their bodies. Beer is for everyone, and everyone deserves the right to make decisions about their own body and exercise their own privacy. We are a brewery that has always supported our community, and firmly believe that craft beer is a place where everyone feels safe, secure, and welcome. All profits from each draft pour of Drinking in Another State will go toward supporting the BIFE Emergency Health Fund, which supports our craft beer community in states who may not have the ability and access that we may be so fortunate to have. Drinking in Another State - The Meaning Behind the

Drinking in Another State - The Meaning Behind the Artwork

So, you might have seen our newest collaboration project. But, we wanted to take a moment to detail the meaning behind the artwork.

Based on the meme that we created, Drinking in Another State, we wanted to integrate the wording into a bold but subtle design.

We chose the main imagery of the Black-Eyed Susan flower, as it is the symbol of justice. It is the symbol of "encouragement to stay on a path of wellbeing and pursue what is best for the person". You and you alone should have autonomy over your body. You should decide what is best for you.

We chose the color blue because it represents vigilance, perseverance, and justice. We will not let the SCOTUS' decision destroy the very fabric of human rights. We will continue the fight for change. We will persevere in our pursuit of vigilance and justice.

Lastly, we have hidden "410 U.S. 113" within the artwork, as a direct homage to the landmark decision of Roe v. Wade, which has unfortunately now been overturned.

The hops are just because we love beer!

We approached Jen at @hootdesignstudio, and she graciously gave us a discounted rate for the art! We are so thankful that she was able to turn our vision into a reality! Isn't it absolutely wonderful?
