For many non-white Brits, there seems to be minimal conflict in their emotions at this time. The strong chorus of voices in both the press and on social media highlighted the direct impact of colonialism that occurred during the Queen’s reign, the irreparable damage to millions of people enacted in the cause of the Empire, and the Queen’s quiet refusal to acknowledge that harm, never mind return stolen treasures and artifacts, or offer reparations, are a stark reminder of why, logically, I should be joining the call for a republic.

Discover the rich cultural tradition of Pasifika gastronomy beyond the usual clichés and contemporary fusion dishes. Dive deeper into the history and origins of ingredients and techniques to appreciate the skill, resilience, and creativity of our ancestors, as well as the external forces that shaped island cuisine.

Food is more than just sustenance, it's a connection to our heritage, families, and elders. The diverse blend of cultures in contemporary Pacific cuisine is both delicious and unique, yet traditional dishes and flavors are often overshadowed by lackluster, pineapple-driven riffs catering to the American palate.

Despite the challenges of introducing unfamiliar flavors and dishes to Western palates, we believe there should be space and support for traditional cooking as well as more support for Indigenous chefs developing their own cuisine.

Admittedly, it can sometimes be difficult to find Pasifika food outside of family tables and especially if you’re located outside of the islands and the west coast. So, let’s share resources!

TELL US/TAG THEM: what’s your favorite Pasifika restaurant or food truck, food influencer, cookbook or other resource?

#repost @jesterkingbrewery 🌈 We're happy to a #repost @jesterkingbrewery

🌈 We're happy to announce the release of Jester King Noble Queen! 🌈

Noble Queen is a special release of Noble King Hoppy Farmhouse Ale, brewed in opposition to Texas Senate Bill 12, which would criminalize drag performances in which minors are present. People who know us the best know we've long prided ourselves on being a welcoming, tolerant, inclusive place for all, including members of the LGBTQ+ community. We host monthly drag bingo at Jester King, and if SB 12 passes, we'll be subject to a $10,000 fine per performance. We wish this were not the case, and far more importantly, we wish for tolerance, respect, and community for all of humanity. Noble Queen is our small part of this. To this end, we will be donating a portion of the proceeds from Noble Queen to Equality Texas, which is actively fighting SB 12 and other bills this legislative session that threaten LGTBQ+ rights.

Noble Queen was brewed with Hill Country well water, Texas-grown malted barley and wheat, and noble hops. It was fermented with native yeast. It's a simple, hoppy farmhouse ale that's tied to a time, place, and people. It will be available at Jester King only starting today.
