Also, stay-tuned for our upcoming running-list of breweries that we encourage you to support for their commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and justice within our craft beer community and beyond.

So, this season, shop small and shop with purpose!

1. Hop Topic World

Hop Topic World is a news and events platform that is dedicated to creating spaces of authentic inclusion within craft beer. Founders, Ken Noble, AK Babers, and Nick Jack, are making connections locally and globally for lovers of beer. Their genuine focus on culture, diversity, and inclusion are fueled by their own experiences in the industry. As minorities within the community, they had deeply personal reasons for birthing this brand. From issues of invisibility to the hostility towards many minorities, it is evident that Hop Topic World is providing a safe place to thrive within craft beer.

This holiday season, support their continued efforts with awesome merchandise. Our favorite is the Hop Topic World Tasting Cards ($10+) that are re-usable with dry-erase markers and sold in either 6- or 12-packs. What better way to drink through the holidays with a tasting card to help you extract the characteristics of your beers. A must for (socially distanced) holiday parties!

Another favorite from Hop Topic World is their Hop Thugs-N-Harmony Hoodie ($49). A perfect addition to your winter styling. Because who doesn’t love the musical reference?

Follow Hop Topic World on Instagram (@HopTopicWorld).

2. Craft Beer Girls

Craft Beer Girls is a women-focused community that encourages a safe space for women to learn and grow their knowledge of craft beer. Kate Christensen started the Facebook group in 2017. Within three years, the vision has been shared with over 25,000 members around the world. She saw a need for a place that gave women the opportunity to be curious without facing judgment. The community has expanded to sub-groups that give women a safe haven for craft beer and beyond. Women are still a minority within the craft beer community and industry, so Craft Beer Girls provides a platform for women to fiercely support other women.

Craft Beer Girls has merchandise that will support the continuation of the community. They also support and collaborate with other women-owned small businesses in the craft beer industry. So, show them some love with a purchase for your favorite craft beer-loving lady. Recently, they released their winter collection. My favorite is the Hiking Craft Beer Shirt ($24.99), and it comes in a variety of styles and colors!

Another gift option for all genders is the Beer Flight Attendant Shirt ($19.99). It is a hilarious and appropriate shirt for every craft beer lover. Trust me, this is a great gift – it’s my most complimented shirt of all time.

3. Beersgiving

Beersgiving is a campaign started by Founder, Danii Oliver of Island to Island Brewery and Kido Family Ranch. The campaign serves to create opportunities for greater diversity, inclusion, and equity in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics careers of the craft beer industry and beyond. Furthermore, the Beersgiving project was established to work closely with professionals in the fermentation industries to develop, train, educate, and interact with the diverse and global communities. With the goals of building diversity, sharing knowledge, creating opportunities, and addressing traumas and taboos, Beersgiving is a platform for all those who love craft beer and the technical aspects of brewing, fermenting, and drinking!

Show up for Beersgiving by purchasing merchandise from their online stores. They benefit the ongoing work that Danii and Beersgiving is doing for the craft beer community and beyond! Also, attend their upcoming Growth and Planning Retreat on January 3rd, 2021!

Just released – the Beersgiving Holiday Bundle ($59), which comes with a loose-fitting Beersgiving sweatshirt, a taster glass, and two crocheted koozies by Denia Drake (@Blacklotus.artist)

Or, pick up a Diversity and Inclusion Unisex Hoodie ($55) to keep warm during the winter. My personal favorite is the orange hoodie. It’s such an underrated color, don’t you agree?

4. Beer and Racism Book

Released in October of 2020, the book, Beer and Racism – How Beer Became White, Why It Matters, and the Movements to Change It by Nathaniel Chapman and David Brusma, is the perfect complement to the events of this year. After the justified eruption of anger following George Floyd’s murder, there was a shift within the craft beer community. For the first time, there was a nationwide demand for breweries to commit to a racially-equitable space. However, there was still pushback from many who believe beer should be apolitical and that the current and ongoing racial injustices were irrelevant. Beer intersects with culture, history, and politics. It would be irresponsible to ignore that, if we truly want to make the beer industry and community more inclusive and diverse.

Therefore, we encourage the reading of Beer and Racism. It’s a powerful sociological insight into the world we all love. While it is written with academic language and structure, it is still a great read for the craft beer connoisseur. Purchase it on Amazon or Bristol University Press ($23.88).

Jen and her work stood out to me for a long time as being a truly inclusive brand. Inspired by craft beer and caffeine, she has established a brand that is bursting with vibes of diversity and inclusion. With people being centered at the heart of her brand, there is a sense of belonging when wearing her apparel. With inclusive sizing, there should be something for everyone in her shop!

While this isn’t necessarily an inherently bad thing, it is so important to be healthy and enjoy all things in moderation. Work for Your Beer provides a fun fitness platform that encourages healthy living while providing workout instruction and motivation. We chose to include Work for Your Beer because we absolutely love that they are inspiring beer drinkers to be healthy and live positively. They also prove that working out doesn’t have to be a chore; it can be a space of genuine enjoyment and passion. Use code “BIFE” for 10% off of your order!

The leading community for women in the fermentation industries is the Pink Boots Society. With chapters all around the nation and the globe, the Pink Boots Society is connecting women through education and networking. It is their goal to assist its members in advancing their beer careers. This is especially important in an industry where women are still a minority group. While this demographic is growing, it is evident that women are still underrepresented in all roles of the beer community. Pink Boots Society is supporting the further diversification of our craft beer community through empowering women to succeed.

The Pink Boots Society offers many scholarships to women in the industry. So, support them this holiday season by purchasing some swag.

8. NYC Brewing Guild

The NYC Brewers Guild is the premiere platform for craft beer in New York City and beyond. They are a registered nonprofit business that was founded to advance the NYC brewing industry with the specific intent to advocate for and promote awareness of its local brewing members. NYC Brewers Guild also serves to foster a healthy, ethical, and growth-focused craft beer industry through the city.

While NYC was one of the hardest hit places of the COVID-19 pandemic, the city has proved its resiliency and strength. NYC Brewers Guild has been assisting breweries around the city in thriving through these unpredictable times. Shop their merchandise to support! And, the best part is that 100% of the proceeds will go toward the continued support of programming and education in the craft beer community.

9. Boozy Craft Corner

Boozy Craft Corner, a lifestyle brand, is the artistry of Sabrina Grimes. Her art encourages to celebrate and empower women to take up space in the beer world. Like many in the beer community, she couldn’t find beer merch that resonated with her at the breweries. So, she decided to create her own where women felt seen and represented. Sabrina focuses on the diversity of the beer world, as a reflection of her own desires and experiences. Now, more than ever, it’s important for everyone to feel like they belong in the beer community. And, Boozy Craft Corner promotes just that.

10. Beer Chick

Beer Chick, the brainchild of Eugenia Brown, is for all those who share a love of beer. Originally, she started the brand as a passion project, but it quickly morphed into a social media phenomenon. In 2020, Beer Chick launched a campaign called the Road to 100 Initiative, in which she and her supporters sponsored minority women in achieving Cicerone certification. This initiative served to break the barriers of educational access into the beer industry. So far, Beer Chick is helping 100 Women of Color achieve Cicerone Certified Beer Server certification and five Women of Color achieve the Certified Cicerone certification. Eugenia is connecting and trailblazing the craft beer community to create opportunities for more diversity and inclusion.

Support Beer Chick and their efforts through merchandise purchases.

She is an award-winning cartoonist that is dedicated to educating the public about the intricacies of beer and brewing. 12. Beer is for Everyone

Beer is for Everyone is a grassroots project that was born from the need for more diverse bodies, spaces, and voices within the craft beer community. We believe that more diversity in the craft beer community will ultimately create greater diversity within the beers, themselves. Every one of us has unique perspectives, ideas, and experiences that we bring to the beer conversation. Now, more than ever, it is time that we encourage everyone to have a seat at the table. Diversification needs to happen at all levels of beer – from theory to practice to content creation to production to consumption. Beer is for Everyone looks to encourage the inclusion of all people who love craft beer.

We recently started our online journalism platform and are excited to bring education and awareness to craft beer lovers around the world.

Shop our merchandise to support our journalism efforts and to contribute to our scholarship fund that will benefit underserved and marginalized members of our community. 100% of the profits from all purchases will benefit these initiatives.
